UK: PERSONAL FINANCE KNOWLEDGE UNIMPORTANT TO PUBLIC
Article Abstract:
Knowledge of personal finance is not important to the public in the UK, according to two studies. A Financial Services Authority report entitled 'Informed Decisions?' suggests that not many people read informative documents, that the tendency is not to shop around, and that consumers are unaware of charges and investment risks. Over six in ten consumers are not interested in finding out more, according to an Association of Unit Trusts and Investment Funds (Autif) study. According to Autif's communications director, Anne McMeehan, the attitude of the public will have to change, and their interest will have to be fostered, if government targets are to be achieved.
