UK: POLICY VOTE FOR MEMBERS OF FRIENDS PROVIDENT

Current full members of Friends Provident are being asked to vote on whether 40,000 to 200,000 former members, including those whose policies have been cashed in, matured or expired, and those with secondhand endowment policies and free-standing AVC pensions, should benefit from the windfalls resulting from company's demutualisation process. The vote on this issue as well as conversion will take place in the summer 2001.

UK: NEW HEAD OF INSURANCE FOR SKIPTON

David Harvey has been appointed head of insurance for the Skipton Building Society where his job will include investigating new products for the company's members. Mr Harvey previously worked for Norwich Union but has held senior positions in a number of building societies and has a lot of experience in investments, insurance and mortgages and has served on the Association of British Insurers Creditor Committee.

Britannia International, part of Britannia Building Society, may use its base on the Isle of Man to offer an offshore advice service. If research into the market gives positive results, the offshore advice business would begin in early 2002.
