US Army comes to TERM
Article Abstract:
Alliant Techsystems, Boeing and Raytheon Systems Company have landed contracts amounting to $37 million, $35 million and $49 million, respectively, from the US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command to conduct initial design, development, fabrication and testing for the XM1007 Tank Extended-Range Munition (TERM). The TERM is expected by the Army to complete an entire TERM mission, from target acquisition to impact, within 30 seconds, allowing rapid response to successfully engage moving targets without the need for artillery. The TERM, according to simulations, also promises to reduce own-tank losses by half, and provide a 3:1 loss-exchange ratio at a range of 8km.
