The U.S. and its allies are calling on North Korea to terminate its nuclear weapons program. However, North Korea responded by calling for a non-aggression treaty with the U.S. Both sides are beginning six-nation talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

Seoul seeks help of China to end Korean deadlock

The South Korean government is attempting to enlist the aid of China in finding a peaceful solution to North Korea's nuclear weapons program. South Korean president Roh Moo Hyun will meet with Chinese president Hu Jintao in Bejing to discuss the issue.

North Korea said that it would make a formal declaration of its nuclear weapons capabilities. The country plans to declare that it will conduct a nuclear weapons test and that it can deliver such weapons to overseas targets.
