U.S.-U.K. tiff delays hearing on British Airways-American tie
Article Abstract:
British Airways' proposed strategic alliance with American Airlines, a rival firm, is expected to be derailed by the cancellation of the scheduled hearings of the US Department of Transportation for the approval of the agreement. The postponement of the hearings was spurred by the inability of the US and UK negotiating panel to agree on key issues such as pricing, routes and other restrictions. The planned hearings are intended to explore the possibility of granting the carriers' petition to have antitrust immunity in their bid to operate effectively in the US as well as in the UK.
