U.S.-led group is in talks to buy key stake in Astra

Indonesian car manufacturer PT Astra International has attracted the interest of a group of American investors who are interested in acquiring a huge stake in the firm. The investors, led by Gilbert Global Equity Capital and Newbridge Capital, also include family members of William Soeryadjaya, founder of Astra. The group has sent a letter of intent stating its interest in acquiring 19.9% of the firm, which is valued at $135 million. The stake is held by the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency to which the automaker is heavily indebted.

Astra sells microchip unit: U.S. Group buys Batam factory for $90 million
Article Abstract:
PT Astra International has sold its microchip plant in Batam Island to Newbridge Asia for $90 million. Astra is one of the first Indonesian companies to sell assets and Astra commented on the deal citing foreign investors' desire to enter the country. Newbridge meanwhile, comments that the deal reflects the company's confidence on the country's long term economic growth prospects.
