US private equity houses: on the move at last?
Article Abstract:
A trend towards increased activity in Europe from US equity investors appears to be accelerating with the 951 million pounds sterling takeover of Willis Corroon by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) in July 1998. KKR has been instrumental in several major takeover deals involving European companies, totalling almost $6 billion, highlighting the influx of US equity into Europe. Industry analysts believe the trend could be one of consolidation within sectors, using investment opportunities to develop European firms along similar US lines.

Profile: Otto van der Wyke
Article Abstract:
Developing a wide range of experience in the corporate finance market has helped investment firm BC Partners succeed, according to founder Otto van de Wyck, who established the firm in 1986. Van der Wyck is seeking to develop BC Partners committments in Europe, with a 1.1 billion ecu fund available for 1999. The advent of specialist country funding has not deterred van der Wyck from his pan-European strategy, which focuses on good deals rather than country investment.
