Understanding practice
Article Abstract:
Architects in the architectural practice of ORMS acknowledge it was difficult to weather the recession of the 1980s but they found the exercise made the firm much stronger. They aim to get the best quality building yet stay within their client's budget and within their time restrictions. Many clients give ORMS a broad outline of what they want and leave it to ORMS to offer designs which meet their demands. ORMS initially worked in retail design when the company started in 1984. They have worked for a wide range of clients, such as Next and Greenhalls brewery.

Fostering management talent
Article Abstract:
Architects Foster and Partners decided that a building covered by a flowing steel curve was the best design solution for the management faculty building of the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland. The site falls way towards a river in the south, it is bordered by housing to the north, and its height was restricted due to planning regulations. The long steel curve flowing down the hillside suits both this local environment and the wider environment of Aberdeen with its oil industry, wild countryside and harsh weather conditions.

Jean technology
Article Abstract:
Logistical functions were broken down and thoroughly analyzed when design team, the Architects Co-Partnership (ACP) designed a new headquarters and central warehouse distribution facility for jean manufacturer Levi Strass in Northamptonshire, UK. The complex nature of combining a head office and distribution facility led to several compromises in the design. ACP acknowledge a lack of co-operation with Levi management has led to a failure to develop the company's brand image through the building design.
