Union Mini re : les derniers probl mes/
Article Abstract:
On the basis of a zinc price of US$ 1,000 per ton as a minimum and a US$ worth BFr 32, Union Mini re (UM) should be in a position to make a consolidated net profit of BFr 4bn a year, not including the growth allowed by the rise in cashflow and the effect of yesterday's and today's investments. Before this forecast might happen, the Belgian non-ferrous metals specialist needs to spend some money into a number of industrial operations. Included is an investment of BFr 300mn in an equipment which will cut the discharge by the new Isasmelt oven, an operation to be achieved by mid-1999. This and other operations as part of its precious metal activities should allow the group to cut its debt to equity ratio to 40-45% quite quickly, from 56% today. These operations will put an end to UM's industrial plan, which included a number of investments in zinc and copper. The group also counts on the development of its new metals activity to contribute to UM's development in the future.
