Creative perks, from bringing pets to work to getting a weekly pound of coffee, are given to workers. Some companies allow cafeteria-style benefits for workers to choose from. Yet the decline in core benefits is also true. One area is pension coverage, which dropped from 55% in 1979 to 51% in 1996.

Third world countries are quickly catching up and even passing developed countries in owning and using technological innovations such as cellular phones and beepers. Telecommunication services in most developing countries are poor and new communication methods are a welcomed relief.
