Upbeat on liberalization
Article Abstract:
International Data Group (IDG) Chairman Patrick J. McGovern is hoping that China will liberalize its capital markets within the next three years to secure its plan to invest in the Asian country. McGovern had signed a memorandum of understanding for Boston, MA-based IDG on Oct. 28,1998, to spend $1 billion of venture capital over the next seven years in mainland's high-technology start-ups. McGovern said that if China will liberalize its capital markets, the move will not only enable IDG to earn back its investment, but the move could also lure other venture capitalists to come to the country.
