Urban regeneration
Article Abstract:
The need for regenreation of derelict urban areas was identified in the 1970s. The Inner Urban Areas Act 1977 has inspired regeneration schemes in many British towns. The common themes are adaption of disused buildings, development of waterside areas, mixed use development and the creation of urban villages. Public money, essential for this type of development, has been reduced during the 1980s so schemes in the future will suffer from a shortage of funds.
