Utilities seek projects abroad: power producers prepare for deregulation
Article Abstract:
Electric utilities in Japan are interested in obtaining new foreign investments as a result of the partial deregulation of the electricity industry in the year 2000. These utilities are establishing business relations with overseas independent power producer (IPP) projects as part of Japan's role in the reduction of greenhouse gas emission through the joint implementation and emissions trading. Since the Asian region is experiencing an economic crisis, these utilities are tapping the international market for their continued operations.
