CENTRE RESCINDS 40% TAX ON SOFT DRINK MACHINES
Article Abstract:
The Government of India has scrapped the 40 percent excise duty chargeable on softdrink vending machines. The duty is however chargeable on bottled software drinks. The Government's move follows the difficulties faced in the collection of duty as the volumes involved are low. The exemption has been given because vending machine operators fall under the small scale sector. The revenue loss to the government is likely to be low as the sales volume from each unit is low.
