VSNL MAY REDUCE LEASED LINE CHARGES BY 30%
Article Abstract:
Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSLN) may reduce the charges of line leasing by 30 percent to attract private Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who can either lease lines or set up their own gateways. By reducing the charges from Rs7,200,000 for a 2 mbps line to Rs800,000 for a 64 kbps line, VSNL hopes to attract more ISPs to lease lines. The charges would be reduced when the level of 125 mbps is crossed which is expected in the next three to six months. Currently, the level of connectivity is 80 mbps of which half is used by VSNL itself for its net operations. The reduction in leasing cost would ultimately mean a cheaper access to the Internet for the subscriber. There are about 20 ISPs who have approached VSNL for connectivity. (nr)
