Valentin Berezhkov
Article Abstract:
Valentin Berezhkov was a translator for Joseph Stalin at his meeting with Franklin Roosevelt in 1943. He made notes in shorthand of the conversation between the two leaders and his notes could be used by historians. Stalin saw Berezhkov as loyal, and he did not criticise Stalin's policies after his death, arguing the the cold war was mainly the fault of western countries. He moved to the US in 1991 when the Soviet Union broke up. He was a trained engineer who was taken on as an interpreter with no special training in that field.
