Article Abstract:
Czech Republic: Rape was sown on an area of 325,300 ha in 2001. The area is three times larger compared to 102,300 ha in 1990. The average harvest of rape from 1 ha was 4 q lower in 2000 compared to 1999, when the yield was 3.06 t per ha. The state supports the production of rape, which is utilized for bio-oil manufacturing. The men of the vegetable-medical care do not agree with the extension of rape production. The breach of the time interval of sowing on the same piece of land, which should be seven years, results in the excessive multiplication of soil fungi and moulds.

Bohemia Sekt wants to control vineyards
Article Abstract:
Bohemia sekt (BS) (Czech Republic), wine group, plans to produce 60 mil lt of wine per year by 2005. It wants to ensure 40% of raw material for the production from domestic suppliers. The firm expects to control vineyards with an area of nearly 4,000 ha, which corresponds to about one-third of all fruitful vineyards in the Czech Republic. BS increased its proceeds by CEK 60 mil to CEK 1.597 bil and its net profit by 3% to CEK 126.5 mil in 2000 compared to 1999.
