Venezuela's telecom and aluminium sales
Article Abstract:
Stakes in the Venezuelan national telephone company CANTV and the four Corporacion Venezolana de Guyana aluminium companies. Major obstacles in the CANTV sale have been overcome and the company has turned the 1994 loss into profit. The four aluminium companies are Bauxilum, Carbonorca, Alcasa and Venalum, all of which, apart from Venalum, lost money in 1995. CVG's steel making complex, Sidor, is also scheduled for sale during the first part of 1997.

Peru's Telefonica triumph
Article Abstract:
The government offering in Telefonica del Peru exceeded expectations on both international and domestic markets, following an aggressive marketing campaign co-ordinated by P Morgan and Merrill Lynch. The tranche allocated to domestic investors had to be reduced by more than half, but this led to protests and the government announced that the state would sell a further 3% to meet excess demand.

8% of OTE of Greece, the state telecoms monopoly was listed on the Athens stock exchange, rasing 96 billion Dr. Two previous attempts at a listing were unsuccessful and the offering was severely scaled back for the final successful listing. The government will now be able to proceed with the flotation of 10% of DEP, the state oil and gas group in 1996.
