Vietnam clears resort plan: coastal project could snag negotiations
Article Abstract:
Fujiken Real Estate Co of Japan has obtained approval from the Office of Prime Minister Phan Van Khan to develop Lang Co Beach located in the south of Hue in Central Vietnam. The proposed $1 billion beach resort project would be one of the biggest foreign development projects in Vietnam. The self-contained resort will have a convention hall, a golf course, car and horse race tracks, marine park, leisure center and other amenities. However, the prime minister's office said the acreage proposed for the resort is too large and the company would have to negotiate for a smaller parcel with the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Business ardor for Vietnam cools as profits prove coy
Article Abstract:
The influx of foreign investments into Vietnam is beginning to decline as regulatory procedures cut business profitability in the country. Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment reports that direct investment in the country has dropped from $1.13 billion in 1995 to $591 million in 1996. Japanese investors still continue to enter the country, however, despite discouraging red tape, difficulties in land acquisition, high taxes and vague investment rules.
