Vietnam struggles with continuing economic reform
Article Abstract:
Vietnam needs to monitor the efficiency of its state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and direct its large imports towards investment goods to assure itself of continuing vigorous economic growth. Vietnam's economy has been exhibiting a large trade deficit which may signal trade reforms and industry restructuring. Vitnam's 6,000 SOEs were responsible for 72% of the country's industrial output, but many are troubled since inefficient SOEs borrow from others in the financial sector. This may lead to a weakening of the country's financial industry in cases of a debt spiral.

Australia stumbles on the path to economic reform
Article Abstract:
Australian Prime Minister John Howard's economic reform package is receiving criticism from all sectors of society. The package's Workplace Relations Act proposes a gradual transition from a centralized system to labor-market reform. Under this law, employees have the choice to choose the union which they want to join. Companies will also have the freedom to bargain with employees without union presence. Critics say that these proposals do not offer protection to employees and employers.

If you explain it, they will come around
Article Abstract:
The success of Indian economic liberalization lies within its people, not within its political landscape. Investors should recognize this fact and help encourage citizens to focus on the benefits offered by free-market principles. They should collaborate with government to undertake a concerted effort to explain the reform process to the people and involve them in the development process.
