Water - tomorrow's oil
Article Abstract:
Building supplies account for 51% of all water use in the UK in 1998, with farming and industry accounting for 13%. Generation of power accounts for 36% of water use. About 20% of building water supplies are used for flushing toilets, with 12% being used for showers and baths. Cooking and drinking accounts for 6% of domestic water use. Water conservation is vitally important to ensure quality water supplies are maintained despite falling rainfall and global warming. Architects and designers need to design for the future when water may be very short supply.
