Weaker dollar squeezes Ciba's nine-month sales
Article Abstract:
Ciba Specialty Chemicals Holding reported sales revenues of 6.42 billion Swiss francs ($4.78 billion) for the first three quarters of 1998, an 8.1% improvement from the 5.94 billion Swiss francs it posted for the first nine months of 1997. The company's current performance was only a little under the figures projected by analysts who have lowered their forecasts due to the effects of the Asian economic crisis and the decline in the US dollar's purchasing power. Ciba, despite the prevailing market conditions, is confident that it will post an improvement in 1998 over its 1997 performance.
