Wellness wave sweeps Swiss spas
Article Abstract:
Increasing health consciousness among the Swiss is causing the opening and renovation of health spas. Spa and hotel operators expect the growth in high-tech health centers to boost the lagging Swiss tourism industry. The Swiss Spa Assn. estimates that total investments on these facilities since 1990 has reached about Sfr.1,000 million. A resort town in Valais is home to the largest investment in this field. The Sfr.52 million Alpentherme spa centre in the area features indoor and outdoor pools and well staffed medical and rehabilitation facilities.

Helvetian health and beauty
Article Abstract:
Health spas are proliferating in Switzerland as children, teenagers and parents are discovering the benefits of soaking in thermal waters. The spa culture in Switzerland originated in 59 B.C., when Stabio in Canton Ticino was discovered during Julius Caesar's rule. Spas are popular because of their healing capabilities for a broad array of physical and psychological sicknesses. They can also be used for recreation and for meeting people of the opposite sex.
