What a tangle
Article Abstract:
Turkey could hold elections in Feb 1999, and the prime minister, Mesut Yilmaz, argues that economic reforms cannot easily be enacted with a minority government. Bulent Ecevit, Yilmaz's coalition partner, is putting pressure on the prime minister to hold an early election. Tru Path and Motherland could set up a coalition government, though Yilmaz and the True Path leader have tended to have disagreements. The US has issued a call for the military in Turkey to move out of politics, but Turkey's generals exert power in everyday life.
