What is a key success factor?
Article Abstract:
The key success factor (KSF) is a concept which deserves a permanent place in management thinking. Attention to KSFs does not promote great business success, but a company must know and address its KSFs to be able to enter an industry and compete within it at an average level. KSFs will vary between industries. They may include a speedy market response, access to large amounts of finance or avoiding inventory risk. A company can identify its KSFs by examining areas including industry standards, the weakest parts of its business system, and the areas with the greatest impact on final price.

This approach creates strong management teams which can derive maximum benefit from new market opportunities. It also leads to task alignment, as the teams are formed to deal with specific challenges.
