Women's and girls' outerwear in France
Article Abstract:
French production of women's and girls' outerwear (including sports and leisure garments) has fallen over the years, with production amounting to some 70 million garments, valued at about 30 billion French francs, per year. Sales in both the domestic and export markets have been hit by the recession, with exports worth some 10 billion French francs during 1994. Imports represent around 35% of the total market and amounted to around 138.1 million garments. Main suppliers are China, Tunisia and Morocco.

Clothing and footwear in the Netherlands

Apparent consumption of made-up clothing and knitwear in Belgium rose by over 6% in 1996 to Fl 5.30 billion, against Fl 5.00 billion in 1995. Clothing production during the year fell by 8.6% to Fl 1.28 billion. Separately, footwear output in 1996 amounted to Fl 252.2 million, with a particularly sharp drop noted in the women's leather shoes sector. Footwear consumption remains fairly stable at some 75 million pairs, with the trend towards casual wear.

Jeans and leisure trousers in France
Article Abstract:
Total retail sales of jeans in France were around 41 million pairs in 1993, with the market being worth around 5.4 billion French francs at retail prices. The leading brand is Levi's, holding around 11% of the market in volume and more than 20% in value. Production of jeans and other trousers was 30 million units in 1993, with denim jeans accounting for around 11 million.
