Article Abstract:
Dominique de Werra expressed both surprise and joy upon receiving the EURO XIV Gold Medal. Being a former EURO president, de Werra did not even expect to be one of the nominees. De Werra thanked his family, his colleagues and the EURO board, and also described operations research as a pure science, an open science, a natural science and an art. He concluded that OR is a basic science and the best education to modeling, and that it requires interdisciplinarity to become more successful.
