The US Supreme Court decision in the case of Roe versus Wade transformed abortion into a heated political issue that has polarized Americans. Abortion law should be left to Congress and not the Supreme Court, whose responsibility it is to determine constitutional rights and not laws.

The high and middle ground

The Supreme Court chose the middle ground in its decision of the legality of Pennsylvania's laws restricting abortion. It upheld the waiting period and parental consent laws but not the spousal consent law. The Court did not overturn Roe vs. Wade as pro-life forces hoped.
