White scalps tingling
Article Abstract:
Republican senator, Slade Gorton, has drafted a bill that would remove much of the soveriegn status of native American tribes. The bil is unlikely to succeed, but it reflects questions asked by some Americans about the wisdom of allowing freedom of action to over 500 sovereign governments. There is a great deal of sympathy for native Americans due to the poverty that affects many of them, and the way they have been treated in history. The support for the bill suggests that some changes could occur, despite this sympathy.
