Who owns the knowledge economy
Article Abstract:
Ideas are not free currency in a way perceived by Thomas Jefferson, and there is concern that monopoly power could come to dominate the internet. Patents allow for ownership of ideas and are being awarded in increasing numbers for internet business methods as well as computer software and genetic engineering. There has been a call for business method patents to last a shorter time than other types of patents since invention could otherwise be obstructed.
