BSkyB buys 17.9% stake in ITV: fending off NTL?

In an effort to fend off rival NTL Inc., British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC has acquired a 17.9% share in ITV PLC. NTL had been in preliminary takeover talks with ITV. British Sky Broadcasting is now ITV's largest shareholder.
