Women's woven outerwear in Italy
Article Abstract:
Women's woven outerwear production in Italy was about 155 mn units in 1997, worth 12,600 billion Lira. The value of output has steadily increased over the past five years. Imports have also increased steadily, making up a large part of consumption by volume. Exports account for nearly half of the country's production. It is a fragmented market with no producer having a market share of more than 6%. The majority of sales are through specialist clothing retail outlets.

Men's and boys' woven outerwear in Italy
Article Abstract:
The Italian market for men's and boys' woven outerwear is worth an estimated L11,500 billion to L12,000 billion at retail prices. Production is extremely fragmented, but market leaders include Fila, Zegna and GFT. Imports reached almost L2,700 billion in 1998, equivalent to almost 46% of apparent consumption. Trousers and jeans are the largest product category, accounting for over three quarters of total sales in unit terms.

The French market for menswear is valued at 55.7 billion French Francs (FFr), with children's and baby wear accounting for a further FFr26.4 billion. In 1998, spending on men's and boy's outerwear totalled FFr27.21 billion, representing a 2.8% increase on 1997.
