The distinguished first major public buildings of 1950s, Congress House and the Trades Union Congress building was completed in London after the second world war and is renewed by Hugh Broughton Architects within the framework of its Grade II listing. The architectural features of such renowned buildings are detailed.

The opening of Paternoster Square, masterplanned by William Whitfield, adjacent to St. Paul's brings a noisy saga stretching back to the 1960s to a quiet end. The vicissitudes the project went through, from the beginning until it was successfully completed, are discussed.
