Worse to come: Japan on the brink

Japan's economy as in dire shape, largely as a result of the enormous sums of money invested by the nation's largest companies that there is no hope of getting any return on. Japan needs a complete overhaul of its business structures and practices if it is to recover.

The conditions of poor people in Turkey have deteriorated considerably since the Feb 2000 economic crisis, but as yet there has been no 'social explosion'. Clan ties and curbs on demonstrators may explain the apathy.
