For roaming cell-phone users, good network coverage is key
Article Abstract:
Cellular telephone service provider Maxis Mobile of Malaysia managed to attract 300,000 subscribers in less than two years due to the company's good network coverage. Maxis' closest competitor, Celcom, has 250,000 subscribers in its analog network and 100,000 in its GSM network. In terms of GSM base stations, Celcom has more stations than Maxis in a 3:2 ratio. What attracted subscribers to Maxis' GSM service is the consistency of signal strength and the low number of dropped calls. Subscribers are also attracted by Maxis' persistent newspaper advertisement.
