YAMAHA TO LAUNCH FIRST 4-STROKE BIKE

Escorts Yamaha Motors Limited (EYML) is all set to launch its first four-stroke motor cycle, YBX 125. The bike is fitted with a 125 cc engine having a fuel economy of 75 kilometres per litre (kmpl) with a performance of 11 bhp. The bike will be priced Rs44,000 in Delhi and the company is hopeful of achieving a marekt share of 35 percent by the year 2000 from the current level of 22 percent. The new vehicle is being manufactured at EYML's plant at Surajpur in Uttar Pradesh. EYML has invested nearly Rs150 crore in the plant which has the capacity to produce 200,000 bikes per year. In the first year, the company plans to sell around 25,000 YBX bikes and increase it to 75,000 by 1999. (gsh)

TVS-SUZUKI SET TO LAUNCH FOUR-STROKE SCOOTER IN OCT

TVS-Suzuki Ltd (TSL) proposes to launch its four stroke 150 cc scooter in Delhi market on October 1, 1998. It proposes to price the product at Rs38,000. TSL has named the project as Neon a la Chrysler. It plans start commercial production of these scooters from September 1998. TSL will initially manufacture 50 scooters per day and later raise it to 240 scooters per day. It hopes to sell 100,000 scooters in 1998-99, thereby raising its sales to Rs1,600 crore. It also proposes to set up a plant on the Nanjangud highway near Mysore. The plant will have a capacity to produce up to one million scooters. (ag)
