Author and Zen teacher Charlotte Joko Beck has built a worldwide following for her clear and novel expositions of Zen and her ability to communicate. Seeking a meaningful philosophy, she discovered Zen in the mid-1960s, and in 1978 was recognized by Maezumi Roshi, head of the Los Angeles Zen Center, as his dharma heir. Now 78 and a a roshi herself, she founded and runs the popular San Diego Zen Center, and has published two remarkably successful books, 'Everyday Zen' and 'Nothing Special - Living Zen.'

Golf is art for Freer's Japanese conservator
Article Abstract:
Smithsonian Institution Freer Gallery of Art conservator Akihiro Kato likens his profession with golf. He notes that restoration of ancient Asian silk paintings requires patience, practice and attention to detail. Golf demands similar requirements but the focus is mainly on practice and repetition of strokes. Throughout his pursuit of his profession and his recreation, Kato continues to find similarities between art conservation and golf.

Malaysian golf school is a duffer's delight
Article Abstract:
Golf is becoming increasingly popular in Asia. However, this popularity has more to do with socializing and business connections than with the game itself. This fact easily becomes evident by the large number of well-equipped and expensively-outfitted Asian would-be golfers who do not even have a notion of how to play the game. In Malaysia, an American pro has started the country's first golf school to teach the game to beginners.
