Taiwan, China state firms near pact to be partners on oil

Chinese Petroleum Corp. of Taiwan and China National Offshore Oil Corp. of mainland China are planning to create a joint venture to explore the Taiwan Strait for oil and gas resources. The agreement is significant politically because the state-run companies will be working together in a disputed area.
