otava sai suuret tytt ret
Article Abstract:
Finnish publishing company Otava will spend FIM 778mn (USD 143mn) in buying the shares of WSOY of the companies' joint ventures Yhtyneet Kuvalehdet, Suuri Suomalainen Kirjakerho and Acta Print. The companies will be transferred to Otava from 31 August 1998. The markets wonder how Otava can afford such a high redemption price. Otava MD Olli Reenp will not reveal the funding source. According to him the redemption price is not low but the project would have been rejected unless funding was in order. Moreover, the balance of the new Otava Group will amount to FIM 1.2bn. All the redeemed companies are highly profitable. WSOY is nearly satisfied with the agreement. even if they would have wanted to continue being co-owners of Suuri Suomalainen Kirjakerho. The WSOY result will increase by FIM 470mn due to the agreement. The profit will be entered in growth investments.

EU:n alueen elintarvikkeet melko laadukkaita
Article Abstract:
Finland's National Food Administration and the Customs Laboratory studied 1,831 foodstuff batches from the EU area in 1997, including 620 Finnish batches. According to the study, the foodstuffs contained relatively little of forbidden substances. A few batches contained biocide residues and a few contained other foreign substances. The amount of hazardous microbes was studied in 314 samples and 30 samples were remarked upon. Under 10% of the batches studied did not fulfill the regulations on foodstuff additives. Over half of foodstuffs for athletes were against regulations, they i.a. contained too much vitamins and minerals. Moreover, the packaging markings of 794 batches were checked. The markings were often found to be incorrect or deficient.
