United Bank replaces leader

United Bank of Philadelphia, which is the city's largest African American-run bank, announced it has replaced its chairwoman and president and may consider raising customer fees. The decision follows an announcement by the Federal Reserve Bank to impose tighter spending controls on the financially troubled bank.

Jefferson Bank founder quits Hudson United board; Betsy Z. Cohen sold the stock she received in the bank's sale. Cofounder William Lamb also left the institution

Two Jefferson Bank founders leave now that Hudson United Bankcorp is in charge after the acquisition. William Lamb sold his $13 million stake the same day as Betsy Z. Cohen sold her $23 million stake. These and other employees along with some longtime bank customers are looking for a more palatable place to bank or work. Severe cost-cutting measures and operating more and more out of its New Jersey headquarters have taken away the hometown culture for many.
