A Package That's Safe - But Not so Friendly

The Financial Director Software Ltd. package is a financial accounting package that handles sales, purchase and nominal ledgers. There is an audio cassette for instructions which assumes no prior computer knowledge. But the account structure and budget set-ups would be difficult for the non-accountant. The package relies on the printer often with screen display being limited. Some entries are made twice, causing increased errors. It handles cash book transactions, budgeting and common reports. There are several difficulties in data entry. Particularly unnecessary confirmations. but the output capabilities are extensive. Cost is approximately 1,595 pounds. An annual 100 pound fee pays for regular updates for users.

The dBASE II is a data base storage and retrieval program. It runs on 8 or 16-bit microcomputers with the Z80 or 8000 series of processors, using the CP/M, CP/M-86 or MS-DOS operating system. dBASE tries to cover the needs of both end-users and programmers. It encourages gradual development through hands-on experience. It also incorporates sufficient features to allow applications to evolve into professional systems, with little sign of their origin in dBASE.
