Incomplete Records for Single or Multi-Terminal User
Article Abstract:
WASP software, supplied by Whitendale, Ltd., includes an incomplete records system sold for 900 pounds or 1400 pounds for a multiuser system. Four disks are necessary to run WASP, but only two are used at a time. Large numbers of accounts can be kept with new accounts added at any time. The programmers have designed a basically user- friendly system with a few quirks. It maintains asset accounts. Posting options vary and each has its own style. The primary objective for an incomplete records system is to produce the reports. Reports are easily formatted, with several standard, fixed reports also offered. The WASP is used with the Business Operating System (BOS) which causes numerous printer problems. Advantages are that it can greatly increase (tenfold) the number of accounts that can be handled and has adequate expansion capabilities. The transactions routines and reporting routines are easy to use.

A Powerful Modelling Package for the Experts
Article Abstract:
MODEL, a program for managers and analysts, has been created by Doric Computer Systems. It is very powerful; it is to be used when spreadsheets are no longer adequate. The systems can be run a variety of large computers. The user needs to be an expert computer operator, but may be naive to actual calculations necessary. The syntax required is complex but is flexible and powerful. The reports that one would generally produce on it would be those meant to be used many times. At present, this system would be out of reach for small companies, but with computer power becoming less expensive and more readily available, it is likely that this type of system would be used. An example of a loan report on MODEL, input and output, is illustrated.

The Supercomp Spreadsheet
Article Abstract:
Supercomp, a software modelling program developed by Computer Modelling Ltd. is designed to run on Data General Computers. Its main asset is its flexibility. It also has a very large worksheet surface. Large numbers can be handled and displayed. Figures can be adjusted cell-by-cell instead of just line-by-line. Groups of data can be transferred from one worksheet to another. The programs will print whatever happens to be displayed, but the quality printers are generally low-grade.
