Making a difference
Article Abstract:
Good management and sound financial advice account for the success of the marketing and sales promotion consultancy firm ZGC. The good management is being provided by the company's three directors, namely Dimitri Constantinou, John Gellett, and Mark Zimmer, who have complementary skills and who have been successful in providing ZGC with a 'USP,' or unique selling point. The sound financial advice comes from partner Gordon Bull of chartered accountants Bryden Johnson & Co. ZGC, which has always been within 10% of its revenue target and costs, acquired Bull's services as action to a warning that its directors lacked financial expertise. After seeing Bull make significant contributions to the start-up of ZGC, the company's directors make it a point to involve the financial adviser in decision-making processes.

The pleasure of their own company
Article Abstract:
Increasing numbers of women are starting their own businesses as a means to control their own economic futures. Women face continued discrimination in the workplace, and a business created and run by women offers many ambitious women an ideal environment in which to conduct their economic lives. Many firms are unsympathetic to the needs of women to balance their careers with their home lives, and this attitude has also permeated many financial institutions, many of which are reluctant to provide start-up capital to women-run firms. The UK Equal Opportunities Commission has published a booklet, Women's Business Matters, which offers advice to those institutions and firms that provide training and consultation to women entrepreneurs.
