A question of confidence
Article Abstract:
Southeast Asian financial markets have been affected by currency and stock market crises, but appear to be recovering. Four economies have been especially hit, and they are Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. Current account imbalances, managed exchange rates and fragile financial sectors which are too exposed to real estate, are factors that have contributed to the problem. Hong Kong has been less affected, and Chinese economic growth is expected to recover. Investor confidence has been affected and will take time to recover.

The Footsie's universal appeal
Article Abstract:
The FTSE 100 index offers a number of opportunities to investors in traded options, such as exposure to changes in sentiment, which may favor cyclicals, growth stocks or defensive stocks. There is also the possibility of stock prices rising as a result of takeovers. Stocks in the index that are of interest to investors include British Aersopace, likely to see an increase in orders as a result of the Balkan conflict. British Telecom is a growth stock in a favorable sector, though the price has risen, and the uptrend could cease.
