A review of environmental hazards associated with in-patient falls
Article Abstract:
Research evidence to support the use of recommendations concerning the management of environmental hazards associated with in-patient falls is mostly unavailable. There is little published research to support recommendations to reduce falls other than that relating to bed rails, and therefore, a patient assessment framework is proposed based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, structuring the risk assessment from the patient's perspective.

Comparison of anesthetists' activity patterns in the operating room and during simulation
Article Abstract:
The activity patterns of anesthetists as observed in the operating room (OR) were compared with those seen in a simulation environment to better understand the behavioral aspects of ecological validity. Results demonstrated that through the course of an anesthetic case in the two settings the variations in the activity patterns of the anesthetists were similar.

Prospective memory failures as an unexpected threat to patient safety: Results from a pilot study using patient simulators to investigate the missed execution of intentions
Article Abstract:
A pilot study investigated failures of prospective memory (PM) as a relevant but neglected error type in medicine, using a patient simulator. Despite low statistical support and some methodological limitations, it was possible to show that PM failures are relevant to patient safety, and that patient simulators are a suitable tool for their investigation.
