A serious business
Article Abstract:
Managers should make creating a sense of fun in the workplace a top priority, as it is believed that employees who enjoy their jobs are happier and more motivated, committed and productive. One of the prime examples of the benefits of making work fun is Southwest Airlines, whose reputation rests on the premise that flying with and working for it is an enjoyable experience. The Texas-based airline has seen this reputation translate into profit for 23 years, making it the ultimate model of how fun at work helps transform the bottom line. Helping people derive enjoyment from their work or their work environment can also be accomplished by designing a relaxing work area for employees and establishing strong communication links for an open atmosphere.
