A wary eye on the dragon
Article Abstract:
There is less certainty than might appear that the US will renew most-favoured nation status for China in 1996. Failure to renew this status would hit China's economy and would affect Hong Kong. There would be serious repercussions and a renewal is likely, but relations between the US and China have deteriorated. Contentious issues include human rights, the US trade deficit with China, piracy of information products like CDs, and the sale of nuclear technology by China to Pakistan.
