Aerospace industry continues to post trade surplus

The aerospace industry posted another record trade surplus in 2005, one of the few US industries to sell more wares abroad than foreign companies send into the US. The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) stated that the industry trade balance rose by $8.8 billion to $39.8 billion, a 28.4 percent jump, which was not a record but still represented a solid performance.

GAO says offsets may harm U.S. suppliers, contractors

The General Accounting Office (GAO) warned that U.S. defense contractors in rushing to gain overseas business are transferring both jobs and technological know-how abroad. Other nations are using offsets as a way to gain both business and technological expertise for their defense companies, which then can compete with US firms.
