Adlife in New Orleans
Article Abstract:
New Orleans' port and oil industries are suffering, and the city's flourishing tourism business alone cannot alter a pessimistic local economic outlook. Local advertising and media representatives express some optimism, however. The dominant Times-Picayune newspaper competes successfully against suburban papers, and recently invested $40 million in five new color presses. Advertising agency Bauerlein Inc bills $15 million annually, up from $3.5 million in 1976. Fitzgerald Advertising has $12.5 million in billings, despite losing the account of New Orleans' premier package goods firm, McIlhenny. The nine-year-old Peter A. Mayer agency hopes to expand its $9 million in billings from its strong base in tourism.
