An intellectual property clearinghouse for agricultural biotechnology
Article Abstract:
Professors at the University of California, Berkeley have laid out three functions of a proposed intellectual properties clearinghouse that could greatly improve sharing of agricultural biotechnology research while maintaining patent rights. With such a system in place, basic genetic research could be conducted more efficiently, and economically than currently exists.

Palo Alto, CA-based bioinformatics software company Molecular Applications Group's (MAG) demise may portend difficulties ahead for other specialty companies. Bioinformatics software can still be a viable business, according to Debbie Yu who presided over the breadup of the company and its sale to Santa Clara, CA-based Affymetrix and Rockville, MD-based Celera.
